Blinking cursor has disappeared.

Until recently I had IE 11 running on Win7. After a registry cleanup the blinking cursor had disappeared from every search bar I tried to use, except IE11. My shortcuts produced what I expected but after 2 blinks the cursor stopped. I had to go right bact to IE8 to get back to normal and, as we all know, IE8 is no longer supported. I tried an upgrade reinstall of Win7, thinking it would rebuild the registry but it made no difference.
Does anyone have the answer to this please?
