Dear Tech Support! I have a challenge for you.
For a while now my laptop has been making a piano chord sound, at random. It seems to be unrelated to my actions - it simply, every now and then, makes a piano chord sound.
Obviously this is very annoying, all the more since I'm composing music on this laptop. It would be great to know how to make it stop!
Some observations:
- It seems to occur more and more frequently
- Often the random sounds only start to occur after I start certain software. Specifically, games such as Left 4 Dead and my DAW software, Cubase 5. HOWEVER, after closing those programs, the sounds still tend to occur. Also, it doesn't always start after launching such software - but it tends to.
- There seems to be a spike in CPU activity at the moment the sound occurs.
What I've tried so far:
- Turning Windows notification sounds (all of them) off. That didn't help, so it doesn't seem to be Windows.
- Checking what sound file is accessed using the Process Monitor tool. It didn't report any audio file access after the random sound... I checked for wav, mp3 and ogg.
- A full system virus scan. It didn't yield anything.
Now I really don't know where to look. Could it, perhaps, have something to do with the DirectX ASIO driver? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
