svchost.exe *32

My computer has become very slow to respond to many commands. When I look at the router, I have noticed what looks like a lot of internet traffic with no programs running on the computer. Using windows 7, current updates. Intel core i5 at 2.3ghz. I see svchost.exe *32 displayed in task manager using over 1 gig of memory. processor time is 30 to 50 percent. When I right click and choose open file location I get SysWOW64. Does the svchost.exe *32 need to be removed? If I choose to end process tree, svchost will usually start back on its own and slow he computer down again. WTH ... just confused !
