I was connected to my work IT system (via Cisco VPN client) and had a couple of RDP sessions open. I needed to do something on my desktop but when I tried it was like the focus was jammed on the RDP session as I was unable to click on anything on the desktop or the task bar and the keyboard failed to function on the desktop. The mouse and keyboard would only function in the RDP session. After much clicking I lost the ability to click on anything in the RDP session as well so I bit the bullet and pushed the on\off button on the PC.
Upon restarting the PC everything seems to go OK, the desktop appeared and the icons appears as normal but the Network icon in the system tray has the busy circle in it and it is anything up to 2 minutes before the circle disappears (IP address is handed out by my router) During this 2 minutes I can click on icons and start menu items but it is hit and miss if they start or not. Shortly after the network icons indicates that it has picked up an IP address the entire desktop and task bar will loose focus and I can not click on anything and again the keyboard will not do anything.
If I boot into safe mode everything works ok the mouse works and I can type with the keyboard, I have booted from an anti Virus boot cd and I was able to use the mouse and keyboard with out a problem so it does not look like a hardware fault.
I have removed the hard disk from the PC and put it in a usb caddy where it is currently being scanned for Virus or Malware.
Can anybody suggest a course of action I can take to try and recover my win7 install I don't really want to remove all my data and have to re-install win7
