Dell Inspiron 1545 freezes when loaded

Hi . .

I am just new to this site so hopefully I have not put this in the wrong section or anything, had a problem with my dell inspiron 1545 a few months ago and the problem still has not been resolved. it starts up fine and quickly then when I go to click on anything on the home screen it freezes, so it is unusable at the minute, a friend of mine ran a test and it worked for a while but the same problem returned. Just wondering is it worth giving it to someone with more experience to see if the problem can be fixed ? Have heard before Dells havn't a great lifespan so it isnt worth gettin them fixed (could be wrong, have very little knowledge of computers)
