I'm running Windows 7 on a RAID 0 (integrated controller) using 3 solid state drives. Obviously, this is to maximize performance. I first installed Linux, just to see what it could do. DSL Linux booted up in about 3.6 seconds and copying a 2.5 GB file within the same volume took all of 5 seconds. :D
I've now installed Windows 7 (erased Linux and used whole volume) and copying the same 2.5 GB file reveals a dramatic reduction in performance. It seems plenty fast, but every second or so the progress bar pauses for 1 to 1.5 seconds. If it didn't do this, I'm pretty confident I would see the same performance as I did on Linux. What, in the Windows system, can I tweak to release it from it's bonds and let it fly free!?:p
