Excel Addition Problem

RE: Excel 2010 in Windows 7 Home Prem. Addition problem using sum formula

I am using the standard sum formula in Excel 2010 (=sum(cell:cell). There are no blank cells in the column. The formula is giving a total (summing about 50-60 cells). When I add the column with a calculator, I get a different total???. The cells are designated as number cells to two decimals. I have checked cell by cell with the calculator tape and all cells match to the tape. I am not an Excel expert but have used the program for many years and have not come across this problem. I have always assumed that the Excel sum is correct and am surprised to find this sum is thousands of dollars off from the calculator. Any ideas will be appreciated.
Thanks for your help
