These are my steps I took exactly, First I backed up all the files that I wanted to keep onto an external hard drive (I also have a backup image with which to restore completely if this all fails) Next, I went into my bios to set up raid in another configuration, switching raid 0 to raid 5, I then installed windows 7 x64 using my installation disc. The install went fine. However when I had everything booted up and everything was working fine I went to activate windows, I saved the activation code on my external hard drive as a text file but It doesn't accept the code. This version of windows I have came from msdn which my school paid for and I got the operating system for free, but I no longer have access to msdn (this was two years ago). The code I saved as a text file contains only numbers for some reason, which I assume is because it is from msdn. I contacted Microsoft support and they were no help, so I was going to run the restore to the backup I had saved on my external hard drive buy the Operating system can't locate the backup.
Help with either just getting this operating system activated or running this backup would be fine, whichever would be the better option at this point in time.
