windows explorer doesnt show total size

When I'm in a folder in Windows Explorer I'd like to see the total size of the folder. In Windows XP this was shown in the bottom left corner. In Windows 7, which is what I have, this doesnt seem to be the case. I can check the total size by selecting all and going to Properties but that's 2 extra steps which shouldnt be necessary and wasnt in an earlier version. Please advise?
