Solved: home network changing to public

first of all, the reason this is in the win7 forum and not the networking is that i have 3 different models of computer in the network and only one is having the issue. sometimes, usually after a power loss on the switch, the server computer switches the network from home to public, thereby blocking the pos machines from logging in.

the system is like this: 4 pos machines, 2 acer all in one and a dell desktop. one server, an hp all in one. all running windows 7 64 bit, updated and installed from the same disk, quickbooks pos 2013, foxit .pdf reader, office 2007, 7zip, and firefox 26 (27?). the network is a dlink router to a cisco 2950 switch for the hard wired pos network, and a separate nettrend router for wifi for the customers. they use a 192.168.5.x ip scheme with dhcp on all but the server. the hosts file on each has the server added.

i was told that when searching for an available network, that it sometimes took longer to get the home back up, the computer would latch on to a public network first and that there was a hotfix for this, but when i downloaded all three (two 32 bit and a 64 bit), it said they were not for my machine or not needed. is there some sort of registry hack or something i can use to make it always use the home network? that would be the easiest solution. or a hotfix or something. i tried swapping out the server with a pos, but it would take a total reinstall of the os to change the server at this point.

any help is greatly appreciated.
