Distorted type

I am running Windows 7/64 on a Dell Inspiron. Advanced age has created mild visual problems (need higher contrast, sometimes magnification, etc). I tried adjusting the Accommodation settings and have done something that is causing the print to be choppy and distorted (see attached screenshot). If I mouse over it and/or highlight it, the print will become normal, but may not stay that way, and besides, it is a nuisance having to do that. I've gone back several times but cannot recall or determine what I did to cause this.

Does anyone recognize this defect? Can you tell me where to start? Thanks
