pc no ound (other than games)except via speakers/headphones

Hi everyone,
I am confused; my pc, with Windows 7 Ultima 64 bit, I have sound on everything via speakers or headphones, but I only get pc sound on games; intermittent sound on youtube, music or videos. Using VLC, added klite.
What do I check??
