Hi,
I am having trouble on my parents computer. The sound doesn't work (all hardware tested on other machines and working) but it was fine this morning. I have tried uninstalling the sound drivers and then installing the default drivers and then also upgrading them further, to no avail. 'Playback Devices' lists the Speakers and also SPDIF Interface (TX0). The former is set to default and both are enabled. There are no disabled devices. When I click properties on either of these and try to save them, or try to disable the devices, the command is ignored (i.e. there is no change). 'Recording devices' displays some disabled devices, and it also displays my Microsoft LifeCam VX-2000 microphone when it is plugged in, although interestingly this microphone also isn't properly detected and doesn't pick up any sound.
I have checked msconfig and Services to make sure Windows Audio is enabled and started. I have used Device Doctor to search for up to date drivers and have installed them. I have run Windows Updates.
I'm at a bit of a loss for what to do next. Any thoughts? I have tried running System Restore but it fails everytime (saying the registry entry for the restore was either damaged or deleted - I have tried multiple restores).
I have attached my system info in the hope it is of some help.
Thanks.
