new pc build, win 7 optimization

Hi,

I recently wanted to build my own gaming pc so I did a bunch of research and ordered my parts, watched a bunch of videos and guides on building a PC and optiimizing it. Heres some questions I had which are kind of basic but slightly complex, hopefully a good experienced tech person will view this post.

1.

In a magazine called PC builder they recommend setting the Sata mode in bios to AHCI before installing your operating system. I was curious Is there a benefit to this?
What I plan on running is a 120gb sata III ssd for my operating system and drivers etc and a 1 TB standard seagate hard drive 6 gb/s for my programs and games.

2.

Im using 16 gb (2x8) of corsair ddr3 ram 1600. would I get a faster/more efficient memory use if I had 4 sticks of 4 gb or 2 sticks of 8 or does it make a difference?

3.

Ive heard if you turn off the page file for the SSD, and minimize writes to the ssd it will last longer and wont lose speed because with this amount of memory the RAM is more efficient anyways right?

4.

Is there a need to manually set my memory at 1600 MHz if its not at that setting by default after a clean build/optimization? how would I got about this safely.

5.

right now Im using a pretty good gaming laptop with win7 home 64 bit. Would you recommend updating internet explorer if I dont use it? I pretty much like firefox more and use windows update, so Im not sure if I need to update that anyway.

6.

Ive been having some weird crash issues on this laptop. its just reboots sometimes with no message. one time I saw a message in action center, something like "2 issues found, pc rebooted unexpectedly, and gpu problem" or something similar. I clicked send reports and it said report send not successful. Then I lost track of the error messages and couldnt find them again.

is there a way to find past error messages of this kind? Id kind of like to get to the root of this problem since this is only a 1 year used top end gaming laptop. I did have a few crashes 6 months or more ago, similar reboots with no explanation. and one blue screen. windows made me a blue screen error log. the laptop has run fine since with lately a few reboots now and then every few days.

7.

when I first got the laptop It booted to windows 7 desktop in about 25 seconds. After 1.5 years it takes about 1.5 minutes now. I dont know why its slower and it could be related to my crash issue.

Ok thanks a bunch for your help and expertise Im feeling confident at building a PC and setting up simple optimizations now I need to learn trouble shooting system and software issues.
