Vaio laptop freezes and buzzes

I've bought my Windows 7 Sony Vaio laptop new a year and a half ago, and this is the first problem I've had with it.
About a week ago, I was watching a video on YouTube, I think MS Outlook was open too, and then the laptop suddenly froze. The sound from the video become a low buzz (I took a quick video of the sound you can watch at http://youtu.be/8fcmdWijSI4). I couldn't move the mouse, and the clock on the taskbar/lights on the front on the laptop were frozen too.
I thought it may be the display driver, so I updated the Intel HD 3000 driver and thought it was solved. But about 10 minutes ago it happened again. I was again on YouTube and also had some more tabs open, as well as Word and Outlook. The only way to shut it down is by holding the power button down. I start Windows normally after and it seems fine. I don't recall downloading anything recently to cause this. What could it be?
Thanks,
Alex
