I bought a brand new Asus N53S i7 with Windows 7 on it 2 years ago. The same minute I bought it I bought a Windows Professional anytime upgrade. It installed fine. I recently had an optical drive issue, I backed up my data and reinstalled windows from the partition, and entered the anytime upgrade key. Everything seemed fine. My computer began all the windows updates (over 100 of them). Everything was fine until after about a week of updates, it said my windows is not genuine. I've looked on the internet for solutions, called tech support, they agreed I had a valid key then hung up on me with no solutions. I looked here and many had the same problem but had pirated software or started with xp. I am the original owner of this laptop and I purchased the upgrade myself when I bought the computer. I also read through the MS support on the issue here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2008385/en-us
~the plug and play service on my laptop is "not defined" as they say it should be. I also found someone that said deleting and re-installing ms windows update KB971033, then trying to validate would solve the issue, It didn't. I'm going to bed it's 5am. I'll check in as soon as I get a reply, I'm sure it might take a few hours at least. Cheers for any suggestions.
I'm sure if anyone can solve this issue, you guys can.
BTW my optical drive had failed, the re-install didn't help it. Since it was still under extended warranty, I sent the machine to Asus for a refurbished optical drive, got it back 1 month later with a working optical drive and this same issue, in other words, they didn't do anything to the software, just replaced the optical drive. I had the 'can't update/not genuine' issue before I sent the machine to them.
