Solved: Keyboard and mouse work in bios but not on windows logon page

If I boot up into BIOS the keyboard and mouse on the computer I'm working on works just fine. However, as soon as windows 7 logon page comes up—nothing. I put an Ubuntu LiveCD in and of course, K&M work fine. So what is the solution to this problem short of re-installing Windows.

I hooked the HDD up to a computer and ran a check disk w/repair and it did say a few repairs were made. However, the problem still persists.

The computer is a Dell Studio XPS desktop. Originally my client (according to the Windows COA sticker) had Windows 7 Home Prem. installed but the logon window now says 7 Ultimate. Assuming he upgraded, could this have anything to do with the problem?

I have a restore disk but apparently no Restore points were made and the disk says it can't repair the system.

Help!
