My desktop was offline for 3.5yrs. When I got back online, I rapidly
updated a few softwares, FF being the main one (from, like ff4 to
ff34) (minor problems ensued), and turned on automatic updates for
Win 7 ultimate, which did about 120+ updates all at once. Big
problems start. I did a basic registry clean, which had a dozen or
two issues. fixed. I turned on the files/folders feature, and i came
back with a whopping 1500 files/folders errors, which is just to
large to sift thru by hand. Trying other stuff, I used the clean
function on Total Uninstall (nothing much, for better/worse). Then I
happened upon a program called tweaking.com windows repair. Before
starting this program, I had a number of restore points, had backed
up the registry a few times, I manually created a new restore point,
started it, and it also allegedly, created a restore point. I had
also tracked the prog with total uninstal. Figured I was covered. Big
mistake. The program not only failed to actually create a restore
point, it also erased all other restore points. I'd get reboots with
blue screen error mssgs (too long and flashed too quickly to transcribe), and had to use 'last known good
configuration' to be able to even get it functional again.
Mostly my
problems are being online. I am reduced to using IE (ugh) with flash
turned off. I get huge disk usage sometimes, with freezes. major
memory usage the longer I'm online. FF totally unusable (many plugins
disabled, but not deleted.) I had been thinking of just going with
Win 10, but I realize I don't have the ability to reinstall many
plugins for my music production (which I've not been using due to
instability of win and personal factors). I am usually good with
minor issues, but this is beyond me. This 6-core desktop used to be
lean and fast. Hasn't been resetting as much lately, but I need to do
more than I can, currently.
I can't think of anything else to
include, and I hope I've been clear enough.
