I recently formatted my pc and bought it a new hard drive, so my computer was super fast.
After installing applications such as CopyTrans and iTools (which turned out to be just as bad as iTunes), my computer suddenly became extremely slow, it took 4 - 10 minutes to get to the log on screen and longer just to start-up, folders are taking ages to open and at times become unresponsive. My internet speed is okay.
I uninstalled the programs i didn't need, unticked start-up items from msconfig that i didn't need, and followed the below steps I read somewhere on this website
Step1 deleting the prefetch files
type, or cut/paste this to runbox: prefetch
press: enter
(the prefetch folder opens)
press: Ctrl botton with the A botton(select all is the same)
press: shift + delete botton(deletes with prompt)
Step2 disc clean up
type or cut/paste this to runbox: cleanmgr.exe
choose drive(normally C: but comps differ)
press: enter(this process can take a long time)
Step3 disc defragmenter
type or cut/paste this to runbox: dfrg.msc
press enter(this process can take a long time)
And another step i followed from a diff post:
Click Start - Run, then type in
%temp% (% is the percentage symbol on the number 5 key)
Once that temp folder appears and you can view its contents, select and delete EVERYTHING that's inside it.
The above steps made a slight improvement but it's still very slow
Another new problem I'm experiencing is opening word docs, every time i open word i get a box pop up requesting me to configure windows, I wait while windows configures word and allow it to restart my computer to apply changes, but it continues to pop up no matter how many times i let it configure and restart, it just wont let me edit my documents. Maybe because i clicked ok for the important windows updates, not sure.
Should I reformat my computer again?
