I am using windows 7 and the dvd player is an Optiarc DVD RW AD-5170A
I recently purchased some software from Amazon and by mistake was sent a German copy on DVD but they have since replaced it with an international copy which includes English.
My DVD drive will not recognise the English version and just thinks about it for a while and then tells me to put a disc in the drive. It will however read the German disc fine. Also the English disc is read fine on my wife's computer.
I downloaded and ran a program called Microsoft fixit.dvd.MATSKB, this does tell me there is a problem with my DVD drive but rather unhelpfully doesn't tell me what it is or what I can do to resolve it.
But I have also checked my DVD drive with a film dvd and it reads that OK and also reads other disks that have software on them.
Do you have any suggestions what I can do about this, or even as a last resort can you recommend which DVD drive is good to pucrahse and ft for windows 7.
