Dear Friends,
I own a Dell XPS, 15inch for three years. And this macine has worked like a charm all this while until recently some issues have started popping up. After scouting through forum after forum I found techguy and hoping this will resolve my problem.
The Issues: I do not know if these are related, just listing them as and when they started.
1) My battery light beeps three yellow and one white on reading about it i felt I need to replace my battery - so have decided to save up for that.
2) Skype: My webcam stopped working on skype. It would just keep showing the rotating arrow which normally comes on starting the video call. Webcam was working fine with gmail, facebook and other aplications during this issue.
3) BSOD - (First time) - I restarted my comp for some general regular reason, the sytem logged off and then a error showed for a few seconds (smth about the drives) on BSOD just after loging off - then the comp started booting normally and mentioned that windows has recovered from an unexpected shut down. I cant understand why because I had selected to restart my computer and it had logged off normally untill the blue screen appeared for a few seconds.
4) Since the BSOD my skype does not open, on launching I get a message about skype has stopped working - windows is looking for a solution and i have to close the program as nothing happens despite waiting for some time.
I have reinstalled skype completely a few times even deleting all the files in Skypes folder in the C:/. The problem still persists.
5) Also recently a few more applications have stopped working with the windows looking for a solution message -like PSIkey ( i dont know what that is but shows in my Action Centre), Adobe Acrobat/Reader, Winrar, Internet Explorer and a few others I cant remember.
6) Most recent issue has been that my wifi just disconnects on its own showing limited connectivity yellow triangle. When the same wifi has worked without problem for hours previously on my laptop, and continues to work on my andriod, and other devices at home including my sisters laptop, and now on every session on the comp of even less than an hour - this problem comes up mid way which resolves only on restarting. Manually connecting and trouble shooting do not solve the problem.
7) Computer has also started Shutting down really slow. Last few times the screen that says windows in shutting down stays for an abnormally long time.
8) BSOD (Second Time - today August 13th 2013) - Same thing- wifi got disconnected so I restarted to resolve the issue - computer logged off normally and then Blue Screen for a few seconds with same driver issue and then booting to show windows recovered from an unexpected shut down.
Things I have tried over the past few weeks to resolve things:
1) Defragmenting my drives
2) Virun Scans using the microsoft security essential AntiVirus that I have.
Other problem which have been around for a while but on researching and reading up online I dint feel they were very critical -
1) I have to activate my flash plugin everytime to see videos etc - and updating does not seem to work. So i have just learnt to live with this :(
I am really worried as I in a few weeks start my masters program in a new country and I absolutely cannot afford for my comp to not work or buy a new one :( Please help me.
Sincerely
Mansi
