why does this happen sometimes? ive noticed it before, ive also experienced quicker boots after system crashes...
heres whats happened:
I have Win7x64 on a decent spec rig (8Gb / Core-i5 / Samsung 840 SSD / Gigabyte H77) for the 6 months ive had it it has booted up in the same time, tonight i was trying a GT-220 graphics card and benchmarking it in Performance Test 8.0 so I could see if it was better than the HD2500 im using, when it went to test Dx10 the screen went blank and stayed that way... I had to crash the system, anyway it started up in its normal speed so I tried again to benchmark it hoping it was a one-off and the same thing happened... this time when i crashed the system I removed the GT-220, went back to HD2500, booted into SAFE MODE and removed the nVidia drivers then restarted, when I did I noticed it took longer too boot, it used to log into desktop when the 4 coloured shapes are almost about too meet in the centre, not they meet and glow for a second or two before it logs into desktop, its about 2-3 ..maybe 4 seconds at most longer than before, not much i know but in high speed SSD world its yonks, i had 18 sec boot time thats now about 21-22 sec, I cant find whats up, benchmarks show the drive performing as before and ive even run Samsung Magician optimize to no avail...
...now... i have a 500Gb Seagate attached, when windows loads off the SSD I can hear that in action too?, and this time im sure its making more noise (longer) that it usually does... thing is I dont have anything installed on this drive so it shouldn't be getting accessed during windows boot? it IS used for my Downloads folder in windows but thats about it? everything else are static files I use in programs in windows and that program(s) arent running at boot.
I would love to know why this happens sometimes and what it is, can anyone help?
thanks in advance
