windows 7- corrupt registry

My windows 7 has suddenly gone corrupt. Keyboard has stopped functioning with error message 'can not start this device because its configuration in registry ......'.
Now I want to know the better choice. Wether to go for ' repair' or ' upgrade option' through installation dvd. Further, how to proceed? Thanks
