I had to install a new hard drive on my 4 year old Gateway FX6831 desktop computer. I used the recovery disks that I created when I bought the computer to install Windows 7 to the new drive. Everything appeared to be working fine but when I tried to download a Verizon online and back-up sharing program, a message came up that I had to install net.framework. When I tried to do that, it failed which led me to look at the automatic update selection. I am not able to get any windows updates. It shows that my windows version is genuine and I have the product key from the side of my computer. Do I need to start over and use the recovery disks again to start fresh? I've spent two weeks trying to figure this out. Thanks for any advice!
