Hello experts!
I have a Win 7 Pro 64 bit machine that overnight when unattended will lose its com ports.
They are still available and have no conflicts or issues in device manager, but the serial ports stop receiving data through them.
I have a weighing device connected to each com port that constantly streams serial data through them. Some time overnight they stop responding and the only fix is a full reboot.
I am using a Moxa 1410 USB powered 4 port RS232 to extend beyond the inbuilt ports.
It is not the Moxa, but the fault seems to lie in the Advances Settings for COMX. In this screen you can use the drop down and assign it to a different com port. In Device manager it says it is com 5, 6, 7 & 8 but in Advanced settings the dropdown gets changed by Windows.
Windows OS is reassigning the com ports on its own.
How can I registry hack it, so it is impossible for Windows to mess with the settings on its own?
Any insight appreciated.
