Start up critical failure

I am unable to shutdown my computer because I am having start up issues. Running Windows 7 - it's starts up - goes to my desktop, then "fractures" off to a blue "critical failure" page. I found these errors listed in the HP Diagnostic tool program:

Faulting application name: GoogleUpdate.exe, version: 1.2.183.21, time stamp: 0x4b95e661 Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7601.18247, time stamp: 0x521ea8e7 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x000223e0 Faulting process id: 0xfb4 Faulting application start time: 0x01cfcc96a0495e9e Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Update\GoogleUpdate.exe Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ntdll.dll Report Id: ab8374b9-388a-11e4-b791-f4ce462e4547

And another one:
The program PhotoScreensaver.scr version 6.1.7601.17514 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel. Process ID: 1be8 Start Time: 01cfcb8515e12d8d Termination Time: 3 Application Path: C:\Windows\system32\PhotoScreensaver.scr Report Id: 84919fbc-3779-11e4-b791-f4ce462e4547

and some that say:
Operating System Crash No description available. 9/11/2014 5:05:43 AM
Unexpected Shutdown The previous system shutdown at 5:01:53 AM on ‎9/‎11/‎2014 was unexpected. 9/11/2014 5:05:34 AM

Any ideas? I'm not very computer savvy and I'm trying to do what I can to keep from having to take it in first.

Thanks
