I am using self build PC with windows 7 Professional, SP1. It's always had a few gremlins, mostly to do with the windows installation, but I have increasingly been having issues with it which I am at my technical limits to resolve.
Currently, I have a number of windows updates which simply will not install.
KB2676562
KB2871997
KB28732339
KB2882822
I tried running the Windows Update troubleshooter - without success.
I tried a clean boot, having downloaded all 4 updates directly from Microsoft and installing. I thought that had fixed it, but lo and behold, the same 4 updates show as needing to be installed again.
At some point, and I can't even remember why now, after some digging online, I tried re installing the .NET framework about 5 times.
Windows update readiness toll - just doesn't seem to complete the process. Starts, then stops and does nothing indefinitely.
Again for a reason I can't now remember, I did a complete driver clean up on my Nvidia graphics card.
I created a bootable USB (my DVD drive is temperamental) to try and do an upgrade install. It won't allow me to, only a clean install.
I wanted to try and remove SP1 an re-install, but when I go to "installed updates", absolutely nothing shows.
I've buggered around with SFC iterations in the CMD prompt, without success.
I am loathed to do a clean install, but it is looking increasingly like that might be my only option unless someone can suggest someway to resolve this?
Next time, I'm just buying a PC off the shelf - my abilities just aren't good enough.
Thanks!
The PC, for reference is comprised of:
Intel Core i5 760 @ 2.80GHz; 4.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 802MHz; ASUSTeK Computer INC. P7P55D-E; 023MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460; 931GB SAMSUNG HD103SJ ATA Device (SATA)
