Cannot install Home Premium on SSD

To start at the beginning: some laggy computer instances lead me to decide to replace my crappy seagate hdd with a solid state. I got a Samsung 840 Pro (256 gig). I was going to reuse my Windows key, the OS being Windows 7 Home Premium.

Rather than research to see if I first needed to deactivate the os/key on my old seagate, I took the easy route and decided I would just install the new ssd alongside the old hard drive (dont know if that's part of the reason for the problem...I can never even get to the screen where it says to input the key, where I thought the problem may be.)

It installs some files, restarts, gives a quick message about doing something with the registry, then promptly gives me this message "windows could not finish configuring the system. To attempt to resume configuration, restart the computer." This obviously don't work. I tried reformatting the drive multiple times, but no go. My computer DOES see the drive though. I also tried using a friends installation disc (in case mine was scratched) and borrowing another disc drive (in case the laser eye was buffed). Both to no avail.

Another strange occurance- after that failed, I said "screw the solid state!" And to use my computer til I figured out the issue, booted from my old, working OS on the other drive. It very quickly gives me a stop c000021a error. Windows repair doesnt work, and trying to restore it to an earlier point tells me I have to enable...I think it was drive protection? It definitely did not like me trying to install windows 7 on another drive. Any help to get EITHER drive up and running would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
