The download directory in Win 7

When I click the download directory, I get a green line slowly moving across top of page, and takes forever for the files in the download directory to load.
All the other directories, I click it, and the files just appear!

So...
what is different about Download directory?

I'm mainly curious, but also, it can be so slow that it's extremely irritating!
