Solved: Can't use browsers in WIN7

This is a network problem that has persisted for several months with one of my home WIN7 computers, which shares a router attached to a Skybeam microwave link. I won't bother you with the details, except to say that initially my connections to the Internet and lan were totally dead none of the network interfaces was working. I've made progress since then. This weekend I narrowed down the problem. I did a filecheck and a signaturecheck on Windows system files, and several things improved. My router is now seeing the computer, and the computer is seeing other users on my lan. I can ping ip numbers on the lan and the Internet. I can't ping domain names. Windows says I'm connected to the internet. My browsers won't respond to either domain names or ip addresses - they say no internet connection is available. The computer has the correct name server ip and resetting it and clearing the ns cache doesn't help. This problem may be caused by damage caused by a virus. Windows Firewall is completely dead it doesn't respond to a click. Very suspicious. I have no way of restoring Windows, I've already restored to the earliest date available. I have no disk image -the repair disks I have use the restore files, not an image. I'm so close to solving this - what can I do next?
