Laptop acting abnormal~please help

hi, i got a acer aspire m laptap with windows 7 installed. recently it went strange.
here are the problems i have encouter so far:

1.with any other software running, my microsoft office software(word,ppt,excel etc) will go unresponding after a few minutes(whiten out)and i will have to close it.
2.when i try to transport large files from my usb to computer it lags a lot.
3. when i try to shut down my laptop it stucks at 'windows Preparing To Configure Windows. Please Do Not Turn Off Your Computer" i am sure of it. yesterday i left it there for the whole night and it still hav't closed itself.

i would say it have something to do with my windows update, but when i go into the place where you view your updates it got stuck, not displaying any updates.

things i have tried:

1. i tried last know good configuration, works only once.
2. i clean my laptop regularly with glary utililtes pro.
3. i have scanned with avg antivirus. nothing found.
4. tries to restore but with no restore point.

and i don't have a back up disk. please help thanks guys, i can not work normally as microsoft word goes unresponding every few minutes and i have to write a report right now. thx
