My 5 year old Windows 7 Lenovo T420 Laptop suddenly decided to take 30+ minutes starting up. Last night I was on Skype with a buddy of mine, but I forgot to plug my laptop back into the charger before I closed it, set it on the floor and went to sleep. When I woke up, I plugged it back in and found it had, of course, run out of battery and it was asking me if I wanted to recover my previous session. So I told it 'yes' and waited... and waited... and waited.
Black screen.
It got me concerned so I just did a hard shutdown and turned it back on and ... same thing. But this time I let it sit. 30 minutes later, I finally get my Windows login screen. It was extremely laggy upon entering in my password, and 20 minutes later I finally got my desktop.
All the startup programs were taking ages to appear. Any program I tried to run took a long time to boot. I tried Control Alt Del, and it said that the operating system failed to load the screen.
I restarted my computer and succeeded in using F8 to get to System Restore. It's been one hour and the System Restore is stuck on "restoring files..."
Should I just pull the plug? System restores shouldn't be taking this long. The restore point I selected was only 3 days ago.
I have no idea why my computer is suddenly doing this because it was running fine with no issues yesterday. I'm worried that nothing will successfully fix it, and I'm worried about this system restore that's going on forever. Should I just let it sit overnight? What else can I do about this? As of now my laptop computer is unusable and I really need it. If I just hard shut down and try to boot it again, if I do let it sit for 30 minutes to eventually boot up, I have no idea if it will ever be in a usable state because I can't really load any programs and nothing works because it's so laggy.
