Computer Specs: Dell Inspiron 17R N7110 Windows 7 Home Premium Service Tag: H1QVQQ1
Problem: Would not load Windows, not even Welcome screen. I ran diagnostics (HDD) using Ultimate Boot CD. Error screen said, "Too many errors". Several attempts to load OS (restore disks) failed.
I tried using the restore disks, but to no avail. It would not repair, do a system restore—nothing. I pulled the hard drive in hopes to run a virus scan on it as well as back it up. Once I hooked it up to my system the properties box of the drive said it was completely full (all blue). So I reformatted the HDD (quick format). Then the properties box showed all drive as free space.
I then reinstalled the HDD and attempted to use the restore disks again. However, the laptop is now not powering up or, if it does power up, it quickly flashes the Dell logo across the screen as if it is going into POST and then simply shuts off. This lasts little more than a third of a second. The AC adapter is working fine and the power indicator light shines when the unit is plugged in.
I removed the battery, unplugged the AC adapter and held the power button down for about 20 seconds. Then I reconnected the adapter, held down the FN key while depressing the power button and I get the same Dell logo flash and then the unit shuts off. I disassembled the laptop to inspect the connections to make sure that all connections were reconnected properly and they are.
The FN key along with the power button is the suggestion given by Dell. As I indicate, that's not working. Any ideas?
As always, many thanks.
