Device or driver issue?

I've had my laptop for a couple of years now I think but here recently I've had intermittent wireless issues. There will be times when I'll be on on wireless just fine, then all of a sudden, I'll lose connection,it tells me to plug in a an ethernet adapter, not that somethings wrong with my wireless adapter. In fact, if I try to go to device manager to look at my adapter, it's not even there. It just shows my ethernet port. My adapter is a Realtek rtl8188ce wireless lan 802.11n pce-e nic adapter. I got the info from the device manager one of the times it was working. But I can use it for hours, sometimes days before it does it again. But when it does stop working, I just have to hope that it starts working again on one of the many reboots I need to do.
