Hi,
I have a Lenovo laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Whenever I try to check for updates on Windows Update I get the message, "Windows update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer." I've looked at other threads about the same problem, and these are some of the things I've tried to fix the problem:
1. Uninstalled Intel Rapid Storage Technology (some said this caused the problem)
2. Removed all of the contents of C/Windows/SoftwareDistribution and put them in a zip folder elsewhere.
3. Ran the windows update fixit program from Microsoft.
None of this worked. When I try to run services.msc and look for Windows Update, it's not on the list. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this please let me know. Thanks.
