Win7 Software Mirror Fail - Please help out

Hi,

My sister's computer had a Windows 7 software mirror which worked for over a year then, once of a sudden it failed (one disk was 'online' and the other one was marked as 'missing') despite all cables correctly plugged in. I identified the (possibly) faulty drive and disconnected it, then I went into disk manager and used the "Remove Mirror" option in hope to at least restore the data from one disk. I got no warning whatsoever and windows simply changed the (working?) drive as "Unallocated" and it didn't give me the option to "import foreign disk" and I began to fear that I lost all data in the process, is that possible? Did I make a worse mess? Meanwhile, I reconnected the other disk but right now Windows simply ignore its existence and behave like it's not there.

What could I do to either restore the mirroring or at least restore the data from one of the disks?
