Windows Update has started hanging while installing updates. It reached, "installing 20 of 28" and then just stops installing. I have tried Microsoft Fix It and the Update Repair Tool in the control panel but neither resolved the problem. I spent 45 minutes with Costco Concierge Service tech support who had me try numerous steps and computer restarts and then I lost my telephone connection. Using the "Stop Installation" button doesn't help and invoking Ctr-Alt-Delete doesn't stop the process. If I try to restart the computer the screen shows "installing 20 of 28 - Do Not turn off or unplug your computer" however, holding down the start/stop button and shutting down the computer is the only way to stop the process.
Finally, I just unchecked all but one updated and manually installed each one, a time consuming process because some required a computer restart. All download and installed except for Microsoft One Note 2010 KB2810072 which still hangs in mid installation. I've "Googled" the problem but all proposed solutions I have already tried so will try this bulletin board to see if anyone has an idea that has worked for them.
