Solved: windows won't start!

Hi everyone,

This is my first post on here, I'm having issues with my laptop and really need some help if possible!
I have a Sony Vaio laptop with windows 7. A couple of days ago the laptop didn't start up normally, it gave me the option to start in recovery mode (which was recommended, so I did). After searching for the problem, it said it couldn't fix it. Si I tried again in normal mode and it started up ok, I thought the problem was solved.

So today I have turned the laptop on and had the same message again. This time, if I select start in recovery mode, it gets as far as the blue windows screen but all I can see is the mouse cursor and can't get any further. It won't even start searching for the problem. If I select start normally, I get the black screen with windows logo but no progress bar and it just hangs there.

I have tried pressing f8 and starting up in safe mode, but after loading drivers it froze again and would not go any further. I've also tried selecting start with lastly known good config which again froze . I have not got a restore point to go back to. I don't know what else to try. Sorry if anything is unclear or if I need to provide more info. Id describe my pc ability as intermediate and il do my best to co-operate with anyone who can help me...I'm hoping its something relatively simple!

If I need to restore everything its not the end of the world as I have photos etc backed up, but id like that to be a last resort.thanks so much!

Data recovery from XP pro to Win 7

Older system running XP Pro power supply crapped out so I decided it was upgrade time. New system running Windows 7 Home Premium. I removed XP drive from old machine and plugged into new Win 7 machine via a usb drive dock. I can see the drive but when I go to documents & settings, then find my user name, all I can see is "application Data", where is my data? I should be able to see links to desktop, mydocs etc. & so on. What can I do to drag & drop from XP to 7? I've done this in the past without issue, now all of a sudden, I'm a Newb all over again. Extremely important to recover years of family photos, documents, etc. Same story, different person. Hope you can walk me thru this one. Thanks guys!

How to identify bandwith hog/malicious service or program?

$

I've been having bad lag spikes In BF3 (all servers, low ping). Being a long time PC gamer and having played this game on max settings for 5 months now I can definitely Identify it as net lag and not hardware related, having my player jerked and tossed around by invisible forces.

It may be malware related as spybot S&D found and removed a trojan Win32.Downloader.gen: [SBI $82F4FAFD]

My request is that somebody show me how to use resource monitor or some tool like Wireshark (maybe)? to find what programs or services are eating my bandwith.

Btw. It is intermittent and speed tests show the same up/download bandwidth as always. This occures when I'm the only device on the network and with 2 different routers.

Registry problems with Windows 7, 32 bit

I am having problems with my HP Windows 7, 32 bit registry, and I don't know how to solve them.

The first problem reads:: C\Users\Ellen\AppData\Local\WinRARSFX\idqbe32.dll......It didn't load and requested a debug. I don't have any idea how to do this!

The second error reads: C\Users|Ellen\AppData\Local\Sanctions Media\Nero\foaopbec pk.dll...Do I have to uninstall Nero and re-install, or is there another way to fix this.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks....

Solved: PC keeps shutting down and restarting

running windows 7 home. As soon as my computer boots up I get a message that DCOM service process launcher has terminated unexpectedly and my computer will shut down and restart. It restarts and almost immediately shuts down again and this continues all day. I have tried typing the shutdown -a and ran all the anti virus programs and everything comes up with no problems. I cannot restore my computer to an earkier date as the problem is on the earlier date that my computer will allow. I have tried this too. now it shuts down so fast I cannot use it to run anything. I am sending this message from my laptop.
Can you help at all or do I need a new computer

Solved: Hard drive failure without recovery media

My dad has an Asus Eee pc 1018P that the hard drive worked at the airport, then when he got to his destination, invalid boot media message constantly appeared. I tried rebooting but safe mode was not an option, which baffles me to start out. I went ahead & purchased a replacement drive then reached out to Asus Support to purchase a Windows 7 Starter disc since they no longer include them when you purchase a new anything. I was told they have no more discs to sell but I could pay to have netbook shipped, with insurance to their facility and have return postage & insurance prepaid and for an additional $85, they would re-install Windows 7 Starter. I'm old school and feel that since I paid for and have a valid COA with a license key, that I am entitled to a disc. It happened at Christmas time when I purchased a new laptop for myself & when it arrived, it didn't have any backup software in case of hard drive failure, they immediately sent a Windows 8 disc to the house without charge for the disc or for shipping. This company will get my business in the future. As for Asus & Microsoft, who after 55 minutes of department changing and hold times, basically told me they don't have Win 7 starter discs themselves but would gladly sell me a new copy of 7 Home Media Edition for $119.99 and prices increased with better versions. Is there any legal way to actually NOT be held hostage by Asus or MicroSHAFT? I tried putting the drive in a drive bay and sometimes it spins up & sometimes it doesn't. I have Partition Magic 8 which in theory, I could copy the Recovery partition, make a partition that size on new HD & install from that, at least that's how I think it's done. I would greatly appreciate any tips, tricks or workarounds that you fine people may have to offer. It's a simple machine for a 75 year old man to check his emails and do online crossword puzzles, but to re-purchase another copy/version of the OS just rubs me the wrong way and is also probably a third of the cost of a newer/faster netbook. Thanks again for all of your help & really appreciate this site. I have learned an enormous amount of information from y'all & am very thankful that nice people still exist in the horrible world that we have turned it in to.

Driver irql Not less or equal

Hello everyone I just recently bought a Dell XPS 8300 that was lightly used, and well without OS but came with keycode for Win 7 Home Premium. So having installed it, and went through Dells site installing all the required drivers matching my hardware. I seem to come across a lot of blue screens of death...stating Driver IRQL not Less or Equal... At this point and time I'm not sure what the problem is anymore I already re installed the computer once and the problem still exists. When the system auto restarts it will say something along these lines...

Windows 7 startup repair/system restore constant use

Hi all,

Self-built and Posted first computer, as below, in July 2013. Seemed fine & fast for a few weeks.
Three weeks ago, for no obvious reason, Windows 7 'stuck' on the 'Welcome' screen. I painstakingly reinstalled from scratch. OK for a couple of days...then repeat of problem.
So then I used Windows 7 disk's 'Startup Repair' following F8 boot up; successful but it asked me to reinstall MalwareBytes Anti Malware (which I did from backup disk).
Ever since then I have had to startup the computer every time - either using Startup Repair and F8 boot, or - just as much - System Restore from F8 boot up. (As I'm always asked to restore MBAM after an eventual start, I'm just mentioning that - is that coincidental or part of the problem?)

Once the computer's has started up it's fine. But I hate turning it off! I've never overclocked the computer, btw. And I've never had a virus as far as I know.

Thoughts please!

Hello, I have a problem with my computer. When I'm using it, sometimes the screen will go black and 'Power saving mode DVI-D' will come up. The computer then stops responding to all commands and my only option is to restart it. Sometimes it fails to even boot and I have no idea where to start looking for a solution.

Here are some details about my computer.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (updated with newest service pack)
CPU: Intel i7 3.66gHz
Graphics card: GIGABYTE Radeon HD 5970 (2GB)
RAM: 6GB

Problem with Windows 7 security updates

I have never seen any issues with Windows updates but about a month ago I got update notifications, installed as usual but after the restart found that I cannot launch any application. I have removed all the latest updates and it helped.

Several days ago I received Windows Update notification again and tried to install it but faced the same issue. I found that these are the security updates that are causing the problems. Here they are: Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2876315), (KB2872339), (KB2876315)

I wonder if this a general issue and I should wait for Microsoft to fix it during their next updates or this problem has to do with computer configuration and I have to change something. Maybe my current antivirus is guilty (I use AVG free antivirus 2013)

Trouble downloading Malwarebytes

Lately I have been having download problems. Today I tried to install Malwarebytes on my computer and when I get to the box at the bottom of the screen that says...

"Do you want to open or save mbam-setup-1_75_0_1300.exe (9.80 MB) from fs12.Filehippo.com"

Open Save Cancel

When I click on the open button nothing happens, same with the save and cancel button. Even the red X, close button doesn't work. Sometimes I will get a box that pops up asking me what I want to use to open it with, Adobe, Internet Explorer, ect. but when I try one of those it doesn't work either. Thanks for any ideas on whats going on.

Limited User Account Setup

Hello,
This is on a ASUS laptop, WIN7.
I'd like to have a Limited User Account for facing the internet on my son's laptop. I have this on my old Dell, which is running XP SP3.
His ASUS has Express Gate which I understand is based on Linux and fairly safe, but has limited functionality, and I'd rather see him using a Limited User account.
The following link shows how to do it, and I'm wondering if this is the way to go.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...(v=ws.10).aspx
When I go to User Accounts I see two accounts; one called "Alex" - administrator, the other Guest - "off".
Is the Alex account the out of the box admin account that my son named, which had administrator rights?
Should the system's admin account show up here as well?
I was expecting to see the System Admin account here as well.
I'd like to follow the info in the above link, but got stuck on what I saw in User Accounts
Any help will be appreciated.

My situation is that win7 is slow to boot and slow to run some apps, and now it will not recover from Sleep Mode but Hibernate is OK. I've been running on this PC for almost 2 years now and have not cleaned up and reinstalled win7. My thoughts are that if I need to go through all the hassle of reinstalling win7 from scratch and then installing all of the win upgrades and then apps, etc that it may be time to switch to win8.1.

Any other recommendations are sought after.

Kind Regards, Richard
